Welcome to Wynne,
Arkansas
People from out of
town often say, "Do I know him? He just waved at me." They don't
realize that the city of Wynne is just a friendly town who often
knows no strangers.
The local
businesses have plenty of out-of-town shoppers who reply that the
merchants are just "friendlier". So it isn't hard to understand why
the phrase "The City With a Smile" was coined by Bud Raley, the
announcer for the new radio station, KWYN in 1956. He recognized
that the friendly people in the area had something to smile about,
the City of Wynne. |
Welcome
to Parkin, Arkansas
Parkin, located in
the south-central region of eastern Arkansas, received its name in
1887. During that time, the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern
railroads were being constructed from Bald Knob, Arkansas to
Memphis, Tennessee. William Parkin was in charge of the
construction, from Levesque to a site just east of the present city
of Parkin, where the young engineer built a long sidetrack on
piles. When he asked the chief engineer at Wynne what name to give
the siding, the chief said, "Call it Parkin." |
